Bucks SOS successful meeting in Wooburn Green

Last night Bucks SOS held a meeting over the cuts to the Route 1 Carousel bus which goes between Bourne End and Wycombe. Around 16 people were in attendance. Around 100 people have now signed a petition against the cuts to the bus services. Over the coming weeks we will step up our campaign against public transport cuts including those to the buses in this area and the planned charges to parents for school buses in Buckinghamshire.

We will aim to organise another meeting in a few weeks time to discuss the issue. Venue tbc

stop bus closures

As local Bucks residents we are very concerned to hear of the recent cuts to bus services following Carousel’s purchase by GoAhead and the decision taken that several routes will be unprofitable to run and will cease running after the 13th of April, including the 1 from Bourne End to High Wycombe via Loudwater and the 2A/2C service from Wycombe to Stokenchurch.

The buses provide a valuable service especially to elderly and disabled members of our community. Since the cuts to Carousel buses in Wooburn Green 2010 from their former route in Holtspur Lane many of these vulnerable residents have had to walk considerable distances to the nearest bus stop, and now face waits of half an hour to an hour.

At a time when petrol prices are increasing extortionately the slashing of public transport services from an already inadequate level will leave many people unable to travel at all. Carousel/GoAhead claim that to run the 1 route is unprofitable, but this could be solved by adjusting the timetable slightly rather than removing the service altogether.

We are also concerned that the removal of the Carousel services could give other bus companies an excuse to reduce their services and that this will be the “thin end of the wedge”. Bus services are already unreliable, with buses frequently turning up very late or not at all. With service cuts they have the potential to become even more so.

Bucks Save Our Services will be holding a public meeting at the Wooburn Green Working Men’s Club on the 11th of April, at 7.30, and will also hand in a petition against the plans to the local council and GoAhead during the same week. All are welcome to attend.

Stop bus cuts in Buckinghamshire

On 14th April the No. 1 from Bourne End to High Wycombe via Wooburn Green will stop running after 12 years due to Carousel’s purchase by GoAhead. This will have a devastating impact on a public transport system which is already costly and poorly maintained.

Following the Government’s decision to cut fuel subsidies to bus operators thousands of bus services across the country are to be cut, following many similar cuts in the last few years. This will mean that villages like ours risk damage to the economy as well as isolating people for whom these services provide a lifeline.

This decision was poorly publicised and there was little consultation with local people.

If you are interested in coming to a protest or a meeting in Wooburn Green please call Rachael on 07851314768

Bucks Save Our Services call for:

No cuts to jobs and services in Buckinghamshire

Say no to extortionate fare increases

For a fully funded low-cost public transport system

No to privatisation
